Bazbus is a hop-on, hop-off bus service in South Africa that’s been helping travelers discover the hidden gems of the country since 1995. Our service currently covers some of the most iconic spots and routes in the country such as the Garden Route and all the cities in between, with our other routes re-opening at the start of 2023.

Imagine we are like the red city tour buses you see all around the world with the open top roof, that take you around the city in just one day. Those buses let you hop off at the main tourist sights and you can hop on whenever you want to go to the next stop.
The concept we follow is very similar. Our buses follow a specific route and you can hop on and hop off at each of our destinations whenever you like, according to our timetable. Your pass is valid for 1 year in 1 direction, so you can stay as long as you want in 1 place or just follow our recommended schedule!

With our Travel Passes, you enjoy all the flexibility of the Hop-on, Hop-off Passes with the main difference that you can travel in any direction – back and forth – whenever you please within the number of days selected (8, 14, or 21 days).

It is very easy to hop-on and hop-off.
HOP-OFF: When you make your booking your itinerary will automatically be pre-programmed to the minimum recommended time for your selected pass. If you wish to stay longer at any destinations along the route, just log in to your unique Hop Login account (top, on the right side of the Bazbus website) using your unique booking code and last name. Here you can change your itinerary up to 12 hours before the bus you are booked on is due to depart! If you don’t want to hop off, you don’t need to do anything and you will continue on your selected schedule.
HOP-ON: Simply login to your Hop Login account. Here you can reserve a space or change your dates for any of the next buses… it really is that easy.
All hostels and hotels have Wi-Fi for you to use, and in the worst-case scenario, you can call our office from reception… don’t worry we have never lost anybody along the way.
All our drivers are proud South Africans who know their country better than any of us ever could. They know all the hidden gems, the best (and cheapest) places to eat and drink, and they will teach you things about South Africa that you simply cannot read about in any guidebook or website.

Our buses currently only operate on the Garden Route from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth and vice versa passing through cities such as Oudtshoorn, Mossel Bay, Jeffreys Bay, and Hermanus, just to name a few, with our other routes opening at the start of 2023.
Families, single travellers, couples, and groups of friends of all ages are welcome to join us travelling through South Africa. Our buses always carry a mix of people from different backgrounds and age groups, making travelling with Bazbus such a great experience!
All of our units are modern buses with the latest high-tech braking and suspension systems and are all monitored 24 hours by a GPS tracking system.
Each of our drivers is licensed by the South African Government to operate our buses. We conduct regular reviews and inspections of all drivers to ensure they are adhering to all of our safety procedures.
We also encourage all our passengers to review their drivers, how safe they felt on board, etc. to always be informed of customer satisfaction and make any improvements if necessary.
All our buses are monitored by GPS 24 hours a day to ensure no unplanned stops are taken and that the correct route is being followed at all times and the maximum speed is being followed. Drivers constantly switch to ensure proper rest for the next trip. And of course, seatbelts are of on every seat and are mandatory to wear on every leg of the trip.
Like all countries in the world, there are parts that are really safe and parts that are dangerous. It is about being aware of where you are and not taking your safety for granted. Some people see tourists as easy targets for money, laptops, cameras, etc., so always be aware of pickpockets and stay vigilant, even if everything seems alright.
For example, never use an ATM at night if possible, never walk alone at night, and try to always stay in a group. Basic things like this can sometimes be forgotten and these are the moments you will get targeted.
Yes! We always recommend taking out personal travel insurance when travelling outside your country, as loss of property, sickness or accidents can occur no matter where you are in the world.
Go to our Tickets & Trips section and browse until you find the pass that matches your itinerary best. Once you have clicked on the pass, select BOOK NOW, which will redirect you to our booking platform. Our booking platform has 6 steps and it is really easy!
Step 1: Choose your pass:
Make sure you have chosen the right pass, select your departure date and the number of seats you want on the bus.
Step 2: Pickup Location:
Here you need to choose your first pick-up location.
NOTE: If you do not know your pick-up location just select DECIDE LATER at the time of booking, you can then send us an email later to confirm this (preferably 3 days before departure but if you are booking within 3 days of departure that is fine, but remember you must update your booking at least 12 hours before so we know where to pick you up to start your trip!).
Step 3: Fill in your passenger information:
Fill in your personal information and the info of those you’re booking for.
Step 4: Add-ons:
Here you will see you have the possibility to add-on extra activities to enjoy during your trip.
Step 5: Summary:
We will give you a summary of your ticket so you can check all your information before making the payment. If you have a discount code, you can fill it in here.
Step 6: Payment:
Finish your booking (we accept Mastercard, Visa, American Express and Maestro). Fill in your card details and confirm your booking. Once you have received the message YOUR BOOKING IS CONFIRMED – You can officially get ready for your trip!
If something is not working or your payment doesn’t go through, you can always contact us or book your ticket in our office in Cape Town.
You will receive your booking confirmation via email. In this email, you will receive a reservation code, which you can use to make changes to your booking through our Hop Login system. Read more in our FAQ section about how to use your Hop Login.
You will receive a confirmation email within 2 hours of your purchase. If you don’t see it in your inbox, please check your spam folder.
Each booking confirmation will be sent to the email address given upon booking. If you put a different email than yours for your travel partner – his or her booking confirmation has been sent to that email. Do not worry!
The Hop Login is our unique system that allows you to access your booking and make changes to your itinerary after making your booking.
Once you book a ticket, you will get your unique reservation code on your booking confirmation that gives you access to our booking system. You can find access to our Hop Login in the top right corner of the website or the footer of the page. It is the link called Hop Login. Alternatively, you can log in through this link.
To enter your Hop Login, just enter your unique reservation code and last name.
IMPORTANT:
Your credit card details are stored with our payment processing company which is certified by Visa and Mastercard here in South Africa. They are audited every year and have to meet the most stringent of controls regarding credit card data.
Apart from that, all payments on our website are secure and encrypted through our SSL Certificate, allowing for a safe transaction.
Your ticket (whether Hop-on, Hop-off Pass, Travel Pass, or Day Trip) includes transport with an expert South African driver, pickups and drop-offs directly at your hostel/hotel, some included activities like (in some cases), and most importantly, a once-in-a-lifetime experience through South Africa!
The time needed is not the time you have to complete the trip, but rather the minimum amount of days you will need for the full trip if you choose to travel the quickest way possible. We recommend hopping off and exploring each stop as you travel, however, the length of your trip is up to you!
No. However, we have partnered up with different hotels and hostels along the way to offer discounted prices to all Bazbus passengers. You can book this directly with the driver on your bus if you are happy to stay in a shared room accommodation. However, if you are looking to reserve a private room then advanced booking is recommended. Contact us and we’ll gladly help you 1
All Hop-on, Hop-off Passes come with the option to book a round-trip ticket allowing you to easily get back to your starting point. If you have already booked a one-way trip, contact us and we’ll help you upgrade you ticket!
Yes, it is possible to either upgrade or downgrade your ticket once you have started your trip. However, please note that once your trip has commenced, then no refund/partial refund can be offered for any changes made to your ticket as per our terms and conditions which must be agreed to at the time of booking. To make changes, kindly email our reservations team at bookings@bazbus.com.
All our latest timetables can be found on all our passes in the Bus Timetable section. You will also get a physical copy of this once you start your trip.
Also, you can actually check your bus itinerary using your Hop Login account through our website.
We pick you up from your hotel or hostel across all our destinations. Before we pick you up from these locations, you will of course need to let us know where you will be staying so we can pick you up.
You can add this information to your Hop Login.
You’ll need to let us know of any changes to your schedule 12 hours before your departure time.
All you have to do is update your itinerary using your Hop Login account. For more details see our section About your login account above.
You can hop back on our bus by going to the Hop Login (you can find the link at the top right corner of our website) and logging in with your last name and the unique reservation code found on your booking confirmation.
Once inside the system, you can change the location and date of your next pick-up. For more details see our section About your login account above.
You are free to eat wherever you want… remember that Bazbus is not a tour so you are free to go where you want and do whatever you want. However, at each destination, we usually have special deals with a couple of restaurants that we think are the best value places to eat.
Our drivers will simply give you their recommendations, but we do NOT earn commission from any restaurant, unlike other tour agencies… we simply ask the restaurants to give discounts to our passengers as an added benefit of travelling with Bazbus
Our buses have 16 comfortable seats with sponge foam pads. One of our main priorities is for comfortable travel so we always make sure that our seats are in perfect state.
We don’t like to give our passengers restrictions, but we do have a few rules:
